The first tour guide was a bit grumpy - probably due to the extreme hot temperatures in NCY; however, so were the rest of us. I did not think he was very professional and did not really give much history or information about the route we were on. He had a heavy accent, and it was a bit hard to understand what he was saying. The second tour guide was a lot more friendly and gave more information along the route. She, too, had a bit of an accent making it difficult to understand what she was saying. Our third and final tour guide was excellent. He knew the complete history all along the route up into Harlem, the upper east & west sides and spoke clearly. He was friendly and very informative. All the three guides we had need to learn "microphone technique". If they talk loudly with the microphone to their lips their commentary distorts badly and it is difficult to understand what they're saying. The mic should be about 6 to 9 inches away from their mouths if they shout or talk loudly. I mentioned it to them and they were grateful, but after a while they went back to "old habits". The quality of the guides on the bus was spotty. Two were excellent and informative. One was basicly in love with himself and just tried to be witty and totally uninformative. One was ready to retire for the day and was bored and boring. Women guides were the best and most informative.

I've done this tour many times and previously was very happy with it. This trip; however, I was disappointed in the tour guides. They seemed to be less interested in giving information about the city and more interestwed in trying to be entertaining (in some cases very silly and used inappropriate language). Also once I was waiting 45 minutes for a bus. I was the only passenger at the stop, but I was clearly under the Gray Line sign....I even walked out into the street when it looked as if he was not stopping and guess what....he didn't stop....so I ended up taking a cab.Norma T., United States, 03-2010

Tour guides are very informant, and give you other tips as to what taxis to take, where to shop, eat. They can answer all your questions. The double decker tour bus is a great way to see NY City, no matter how many times you have been there. I recommend getting the 2 day tour covering at least the north and south loops. The tour guides are usually excellent (we had one exception this trip) and always provide new and interesting information. The guides we had were mostly excellent. The others were fun and really added to the experience. We did not experience anyone begging for tips as we had heard. Inside of most of the buses were not air-conditioned--so it was super hot (better outside with a breeze when available). The only negative comment (and maybe this is a green thing and that is good) is that in a couple of the buses the inside A/C was turned off. And of course the windows are not good for taking pictures. We found that the upper deck was the best location for this kind of tour, and it was wonderful in terms of seeing the city landmarks and learning the history of the markers from your guides.

This was our 4th time to New York City, and I have to tell you there were 6 people in our group and not one was disappointed with the tour. We went on the all loop 48 hour tour. Out of the three tours we took we were very impressed with two of the guides. They were funny entertaining and very knowledgeable.We learned a lot about The history of the city.The night tour was a little disappointing, only because our guide was not in our opinion as good as the other two. Having said that, We would recommend this to everyone that stays in New York.

I do recommend this double deck tours to any one who goes on vacation for many reasons:
1.Save money(taxis are more expensive and do not give you any explanation or guidance of the place).
2.The bus has an upper decker were you can se the city more visible.
3. You can hop on and out on any stop and not to worry about having to pay every time you get out ,so you are saving money.

I highly, highly recommend this tour. We purchased the All-Tours (48-hr pass) and it took us everywhere we wanted to see/go and then some. As a Los Angeles native, we did not know much about the city itself so we really depended on the tour to guide us. It was fantastic and I loved the idea of being able to hop on/off. It saved us lots of money on cab fares, but more so - a great guide to experience NYC thoroughly. When we redeemed our voucher at the visitor's center, we were told our tours ticket also included a harbor cruise. The $49 purchase price not included (4) loops throughout NYC and Brooklyn, but also a 1-hr cruise around Statue of Liberty. This tour MADE our NY trip. I cannot stop recommending enough. We received great service from 3 of the guides and terrible from another. She had a British accent and wore lots of pink lipstick that she got on the yellow microphone cover. She was quite rude to us 2 times and so we got off to get another bus since it was no fun being on her shift and we couldn't hear her. Plus, if we were to laugh or have fun in anyway, she'd give a dirty look and tell us over the microphone that we need to be quiet. She was not hospitable when we got on either. I took the All tours loop which was wonderful, especially when you combine it with an attraction pass. We offer complimentary disposable ponchos on rainy days to help keep you dry and you always have the option to travel in the bottom, covered half of our double decker buses. The lower level of the buses are heated in the winter and air conditioned in the summer. No bathroom on board. Our buses meet the most stringent environmental standards existing today.
