86th Floor Observatory: The 86th floor Observatory, 1,050 feet (320 meters), reached by high speed, automatic elevators, has both a glass-enclosed area, which is heated in winter and cooled in summer, and spacious outdoor promenades on all four sides of the Building. High powered binoculars are available on the promenades for the convenience of visitors at a minimal cost. Souvenir counters are also located in the 86th floor observatory. 102nd Floor Observatory: The 102nd floor Observatory has reopened as of November 1, 2005.
Admission tickets are only sold at the Observatory ticket office, located on the 2nd floor of the building, at a cost of $14 in addition to regular admission tickets.

  • 8:00am to Midnight daily. Last elevators go up at 11:15pm.
    Open daily 365 days a year.
  • Extended Hours for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday Nights:
    8:00am to 2:00am on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights through 1/6/2007.
    Last elevators go up at 1:15am.
  • Holiday Observatory Hours:
    Thanksgiving Day
    8:00am to 2:00am. Last elevators go up at 1:15am.
  • Christmas Eve (12/24)
    8:00am to 7:00pm. Last elevators go up at 6:15pm.
  • Christmas Day (12/25)
    11am to Midnight. Last elevators go up at 11:15pm.
  • New Year's Eve (12/31)
    8:00am to 7:00pm. Last elevators go up at 6:15pm.
  • New Year's Day (1/1)
    11:00am to Midnight. Last elevators go up at 11:15pm.

Building Entrance Security:

Everyone must go through the security check when entering the building. No glass or bottles are permitted to be taken to the Observatory. Cameras and camcorders are allowed but no tripods. ONLY carry-on size and style bags, suitcases, backpacks, duffle bags, luggage, etc., are permitted. We do not have a coat check, package, baggage check or holding area, so please do not attempt to bring non-carry-on style luggage to the Observatory

  • Main Entrance - Fifth Avenue between 33rd & 34th Streets. All Visitors must use this entrance. During busy times there may be a wait so please be patient!
  • Handicap Entrance - 34th St., the entrance between Bank of America and Hallmark Cards. Note: The 34th Street Handicap Entrance is only open Monday - Friday until 6pm. Please use the Main Entrance for all other times.
  • Everyone will be directed to use the Main or Handicap Entrances if you try to enter the building from any other entrance unless you have purchased the NY SKYRIDE / Obervation Deck Combo Ticket. Entrance to the NY SKYRIDE is NOT through the main entrance on Fifth Avenue but rather on the 33rd Street side of the building by the Post Office. NY SKYRIDE has their own entrance and Box office.

Empire State Building 86th Floor Observation Deck Ticket
