Join us on a Sunday morning in the Black capital of the world and learn about Harlem, it's start as a rural Dutch community, it's transformation into a summer retreat for New York's most prominent families, how it then became a Mecca for African American writers and artists at the turn of the century, to it's troubled past during the 1960's and 1970's and it's present day community brimming with pride and reveling in it's new renaissance.

Along the way you will see famous sights and landmarks such as the St. John the Divine, Columbia University, City College, Morning Side Heights, the Morris Jumel Mansion, Sylvan Terrace, Strivers Row and The Abyssinian Baptist Church, Sugar Hill, St. Nicholas Avenue, where Duke Ellington lived and the famed 125th street, Harlem USA, the Cotton Club, and the Apollo Theater, the Schomburg Center for research in Black Culture. Then, join a local congregation for the Sunday worship service and experience the soul stirring power of Gospel music.

What is "Soul Food"?

Soul Food is traditional African American cuisine that originated in the South in the United States. Today it has become a highly sought after cuisine. It consists of spicy ribs, collard greens, fried fish and chicken, freshly cooked corn bread, and a few side dishes like black eye peas, okra, or macaroni and cheese to mention a few.

Proper dress is required to attend the church service: no shorts or tank tops will be accepted.

Sunday Year Round. Tours will NOT operate on: Memorial Day (May 26th, 2008), Independence Day (July 4th, 2008), Labor Day (Sept. 01, 2008), Thanksgiving (Nov. 27th, 2008), Christmas (Dec. 25th, 2008), or New Years Day (Jan. 01, 2009)

Departure Point: Harlem Spirituals terminal at 690 Eighth Avenue (between 43rd and 44th Streets) New York, NY 10036

Departure Time:

We meet 15 minutes prior to tour departure. 9:30AM (English) 09:00AM (all other languages - French, German, Italian and Spanish)

Only groups of 25 or more can be picked up from their hotel within Manhattan at no additional charge. Individuals meet at our ticket office located at 690 8th Avenue between 43rd & 44th Street.

Complimentary drop-offs are offered on all late night tours and most daytime tours from uptown, down to 34th Street. The drop-offs are made along Columbus Avenue, Broadway, and Seventh Avenue.

Confirmation & Travel Voucher:

This tour must be booked 24hrs in advance of your travel date. Your confirmation for this product will be received within 12-24 hours subject to availability. You will receive a confirmation email with a link to your E-Ticket Voucher. Print voucher on your home/ office printer and present SIGNED voucher at departure location.Only one voucher will be created per tour acitivity for all travelers.

Cancellation and No Show Policy:

• More than 3 days prior: no charge
• 48hrs prior: $15.00 per person per tour booked
• Less than 24hr: 100% will apply
• No shows: 100% will apply

Recommended: Comfortable shoes and a extra layer of warm clothing.
